1985

• Bank trade unions allow computerisation in banks; however, a computer can only run one application such as Saving Bank, Current account, Loans, etc.
• Sets up core team to develop the required software Advanced Ledger Posting Machines (ALPM). The team uses reusable code to reduce development efforts and produce more reliable code. ALPM becomes the largest selling software product in Indian banks.

1986

• Zonal offices of banks and general insurance companies adopt computerization
• Purchase specifications demand the availability of RDBMS products on the supplied solution (Unify, Oracle) HCL arranges for such products to be ported to its platform

1991

• Enters into a joint venture with Hewlett Packard
