Alibag is a small seaside town on the Konkan coast, serves as the headquarters of the Raigad district, and is used as convenient base for visiting Kihim and Nagaon beaches and also the Kolaba Fort, a marine fort which is approachable only during low tide.

Siddheshwar Temple
Perched on a hillock, this important and famous temple at Alibag attracts pilgrims in good numbers. Darya Samrat Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre’s home and Samadhi are other places of interest in Alibag.


Jewish Synagogue
This old Synagogue is a scared place for the Jews who have a small settlement inn the town.

Kolaba Sea Fort
Situated in the sea, this fort is said to have been built by Kanhoji Angre, Shivaji’s admiral. It can be visited during low tide.


Nagaon and Akshi Beach (9 km):
The Nagaon and Akshi beaches, secluded and lined with casuarinas forests are enchanting places for a day’s outing from Alibag.

Kihim (11 km):
Kihim is an exclusive beach laced with lush coconut trees.

Kankeshwar Temple (12.5 km):
This is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva located at a height of 1,250 ft with about 650 steps leading to the temple. Vrindavan Farm near Kankeshwar Phata stocks all kinds of exotic and everyday plants.

Chaul (16 km):
Chaul, in Raigad District, was the capital of the Shalihar dynasty and has forts and monuments belonging to the Portuguese, Moghul and Maratha periods.

Revdanda (19 km):
A small quiet beach with ruins of the Agarkot fort is a popular travel attraction.

Mandwa, situated north of Alibag, is an unspoilt beach.

Karnala Bird Sanctuary (80 km):
Located 12 km from Panvel, on the Mumbai-Pune Highway, Karnala is a birdwatchers’ paradise offering a sight of variety of bird species. About 150 species of birds have been spotted here, 30 of which are migratory.

Murud – Janjira (52 km)
Formerly the capital town of the Sidis of Janjira, Murud is today popular for its alluring beach and an ancient sea fort – the Janjira Fort. Roha (68 km) on the Konkan Railway is the nearest railhead. One of the most impregnable forts, the 300 year old Janjira Fort is accessible via Rajpuri (3 km) from where boat services are available.

  • “Maldar Catamarans” operate regular Catamaran services from the Gateway of India to Mandwa (20 Km.). Except during the monsoons when the operation remains suspended till the month of October.
